Develop a children's literature bibliography of notable trade books appropriate for a grade level of your choice. Refer to the chapter bibliography and notable trade books suggested by the NCSS website, www.socialstudies.org.

Explore the list of informational magazines for students in grades K-8 suggested in the chapter. Visit a local library or the magazine's online site to view the different magazines. Rate each of the magazines using Harvey & Goudvis (2000) criteria for reading short nonfiction text. Record which magazines would be worthwhile to have as a subscription in your own classroom.

Develop a NCSS standards--linked lesson plan for a grade level of your choice. Include a writing activity that incorporates the stages of the writing process.
