Go to http://spartan.ac.brocku.ca/~lward/mead/pubs2/mindself/Mead_1934_36.html. Read Chapter 36 ("Democracy and Universality in Society") from Mead's Mind, Self and Society, and then answer the following questions:
a. What are the two ways in which universality expresses itself in a human society? b. What variable is essential for the development of a universal community? c. How is the attitude of the self different from the attitude of the mind? d. How does Mead define democracy? Relate this definition to Mead's concept of the generalized other.
