Cookie  A text file that a server writes to a person's hard drive without his or her knowledge. The purpose is to track the individual's computer usage.
Copyright  The laws that protect people who own creative works such as music, art, text, software and other products of this nature.
Desktop video conferencing  
Distance Education  Distance education refers to institutions or instructors delivering knowledge using telecommunication or remote capabilities.
Distance learning  When a student receives training from a remote teaching site via TV or computer.
Electronic whiteboard  A device that is connected to the teacher's computer that lets users see what the instructor writes and captures the information that is written into a computer file.
Filtering software  A program that tries to prevent the user from accessing adult material on the Internet.
FireWall  A security system that protects a network against threats from hackers from other networks.
Hacker  A computer expert; sometimes one who illegally accesses and tampers with computer programs and data.
Plagiarism  When someone takes the graphic representation, writings or ideas of another person and uses them as their own.
Spam  Unsolicited messages sent via the Internet.
Virus  A program that infects computer files by duplicating itself.
Worm  A program that can run by itself and replicate a full working version to other computers. After the worm is finished with its work, the data are usually corrupted and irretrievable.
