Map Labeling and Typography. In this exercise, students label a map utilizing the cartographic conventions for the use of lettering discussed in the textbook. Skills covered in the exercise include: dynamic labeling, interactive labeling, setting a reference scale, adjusting label properties, defining and labeling feature classes, adjusting the size of a label background symbol, removing duplicate labels, and converting labels to annotation.

The mapping project file ([exercise name].mxd) and data files (contained in a separate folder) are compressed as a ZIP file and must be unzipped in order to work. Save the file to a location on your computer or external drive and unzip it.
