Women's advocacy groups have a strong interest in affirmative action policies, in part because some affirmative action programs may target women. Visit the website of the National Organization for Women (www.now.org) to see whether this key women's organization supports affirmative action, and why.

Click on the Issues tab at the top of the page, and then select Affirmative Action. Link to the article entitled "Save Affirmative Action," written while the Supreme Court was hearing a recent case about affirmative action. Read the article and answer these questions:
  1. Is the author in favor of having affirmative action programs?
  2. Why do you think a case about affirmative action for racial and ethnic minorities would interest the president of a women's organization?
  3. According to the article, what are the positive benefits of affirmative action?
  4. What does the article say about the "other kind" of affirmative action policies? What's your view on this "alternative" affirmative action?
  5. Overall, do you agree or disagree with the author of this article?
