If you are planning to become a sociology major or do graduate work in sociology, then other sociology students are a reference group for you. The American Sociology Association sponsors a website for students interested in sociology, through which you can interact with this reference group. Visit the site at www.asanet.org/studentforum/index.html.

Click on the link to Student Forum Activities at the ASA Meeting.
  1. In what ways does the American Sociological Association propose to bring sociology students together?
  2. Would you be interested in meeting up with other sociology students at a conference? How might it become a part of your anticipatory socialization?
Use your browser's back button to return to the main ASA's Student Forum Page. Click on the link to "Forums" and peruse some of the messages that have been posted. Answer the following questions:
  1. What might you or other sociology students gain from participating in one of these forums?
  2. Does it make a difference that these forums connect you to sociology students from across the country?
  3. Would you expect to gather different information if meeting with other students in a closed, confidential meeting?
