Amalgamation, in which two different racial or ethnic groups intermarry to form a new group, is one possible form of intergroup relations. To what extent is amalgamation a common form of intergroup relations in the United States? Do people born of ethnic or racial intermarriage face special problems? You can explore these questions by visiting EurasianNation (www.eurasiannation.com/), a website about people of mixed White and Asian ancestry.

First, look through the abstracts in the New and Favorites columns.
  1. Based on your own knowledge, how common is it to be bi-racial in the United States?
  2. Do these abstracts indicate that there are problems associated with being bi-racial in the United States? What kinds of issues are raised?
