Frederick Douglass was an inspirational and influential spokesperson in the abolitionist movement. He spoke widely about the horrors of his own experience as a slave during his youth, and his Rochester, New York, newspaper, The North Star, was representative of the many news journals that contributed to the anti-slavery cause.
