New Features

New Features:

  • 3 new modules featuring current topics have been added to the text: Learning-in-Action, Psychodynamics Perspective on Human Behavior, and Mentoring.
  • The table of contents has been revised to include 16 Core Modules in the text and 4 Advanced Modules on the Website. Each module is designed as a stand-alone unit allowing the instructor freedom to develop the overall structure of the course.
  • Several new cases and exercises have been included.

Retained Features:

  • The experiential approach of this book has been retained. Students practice what they learn through numerous cases, involvement exercises, role-plays, and applications.
  • Since some students may at first be uncomfortable with experiential methods in a required course, the beginning of the text is more structured with less personal activities. After students have had ample experience, personal growth and self-understanding activities are introduced. In addition, the appreciative inquiry orientation is introduced early on.
  • The learning-by-doing orientation is retained, which includes adult education methods, such as team activities, role playing, case studies, simulations, and team project activities in the communities within and outside the university boundaries.
  • The major continuity with previous editions is the basic approach, the aims, the emphasis, and the learning process.
  • The modular design allows significant instructor freedom in course design.
  • There's an emphasis on bringing the type of training that supervisors, managers, and executives receive in management development programs to the university classroom, making this text the most relevant and applied text in organizational behavior.
