Stormy Seas: A Dip Before the Hurricane Hits

The weather bureau reports a hurricane is on the way. People check their flashlights and buy candles and bottled water. Those along the beach board their windows, and some take off. We cover that, the usual preparations. Others put on their bathing suits and dive into the surf. There's a story here, too, and it has to be told carefully. Are these men nutty daredevils, or people bored with office jobs and the 9 to 5 life? We'll let them tell us. We'll show them leaping into the water, listen to their comments when they dry off.

We remember the advice of editors given to reporters through the years: Show, Don't Tell. Good Quotes Up High.
