A. Observe

     Gustave Flaubert advised the young Guy de Maupassant to observe one person in a group so closely that the significant details and individual characteristics of that person would clearly separate him or her from other police officers, teachers, passers-by.
     Try this with a class member. Observe physical characteristics, listen to the person's speech, watch his or her actions.
     Do not name the person in your description. See how quickly other students can identify your subject. Or try it with a faculty member or administrator known to classmates.
