One of five college women reports having been the victim of abuse at least once. Drinking and/or drug use are involved in almost 60 percent of the incidents. Some authorities on the subject say some of the victims continue an abusive relationship rather than being alone or because they are so inexperienced in relationships they accept a violent one as normal.
     Search the Internet to see what authorities have found about dating violence, and merge your findings with the material you gather in interviews on campus with students and with administrators.

     When Michael Jackson appeared at jury selection for his trial on charges of molesting a 13-year-old boy he was dressed in what a newspaper described as "music-videoworthy outfits."
     Unwise, said some defense lawyers and jury consultants. The pop star's clothing might lead a juror to think, "This guy is so weird he might have done this," said one consultant.
     Jury consultants are hired to give defense laywers advice on everything from the type of clothing a defendant should wear to whether a balding defendant should put on a hairpiece for his trial.
     Make a search for material about the use of jury consultants. If any local lawyers have hired jury consultants, ask them about how they used the consultants. Write a general article about how often consultants are used and how successful they are.
