A. Gamblers

Compulsive gambling is defined as "an impulse-control disorder" by the American Psychiatric Association, and it is reported to be growing. Among youths, the disorder is higher than most had thought. A recent study found it affects 1 in 25 youths.
Interview students on your campus. Do many gamble on football and basketball games, regularly go to casinos or gamble in other ways? Differentiate between occasional betting and compulsive gambling in your 350-word article. Include the difficulty or ease with which college gamblers can wager. A police raid at Columbia University, for example, found that a fraternity house was the center for campus gamblers with bookies living in the house.

B. Relationships

Many schools have adopted strict sexual harassment policies, but some are taking another step in banning "romantic or sexual relationships" between faculty members and their students. Some of the schools have absolute policies—not even consensual relationships are permitted. Some discourage a relationship but if one does develop it must be reported to a dean and the faculty member must be removed from authority over the student.
On some campuses with these policies, opposition has developed. At the University of California, an English professor said the word "romantic" covers too much ground. "Does that mean a personal relationship? Does it mean you can't go out for coffee?" asks Catherine Gallagher.
Does your school have a similar policy, and if so has there been any debate about it?
