11.1 Childbearing Losses

Grief following a childbearing loss is potentially influenced by the parents' perceptions that the loss is neither understood nor acknowledged by others. Hence, many support groups have arisen to meet the needs of these bereaved parents. The MISS Foundation's online support site is but one example. As you explore this site, notice the kinds of information and opportunities presented to both parents and professionals. Respond to the following:

1
What kinds of information do you find under the heading About in the title bar?"
2
In the section for professionals, click on Professionals Toolbox. Here are numerous suggestions related to various aspects of caring for a bereaved parent. Click on one of the areas and describe what you find including information you think is especially important.
3
Investigate the section devoted to news and events. What are the concerns of this organization and how are they expressed?
4
Go to the title bar on the home page and click on Support. You will see a menu with many different categories of support. Select one, provide the name and a summary of the information that you obtained from reading the material.
5
Describe what you have learned about childbearing losses from investigating this site.
