Physical ScienceUnit 2:
Electricity and Energy ResourcesUnit Project 2Introduction: A heat source is needed in order to cook food, usually a stove or oven that operates on electricity or natural gas. In this project students will devise a way to cook that doesn't rely on conventional energy sources. Task: Ask students to think of an energy source that can be used to cook food outside. Their job will be to create a cooking device that does not need to be plugged in to a power supply or use an open flame. Alternative: Have students work in groups of 3 or 4 to construct solar cookers. Plan a class feast for which each group will prepare a different dish in their cooker.
