Introduction
In this chapter, you have studied the geography, history, and culture of the United States. As settlers moved in and built farms, towns, and cities, the landscape of this country changed. Recognizing the need to preserve wilderness and historical locations, the United States government established the National Park Service. Yellowstone National Park was the first national park in the world.

Directions
Start at the National Park Service home page.

• Click on Parks and Recreation.
• Click on "more" under View All Parks A Z.
• Now find "Y" at the top of the page and click on it.
• Find and click on Yellowstone National Park.
• After you have read through the information, answer the following questions.

1			When was Yellowstone National Park established?
2			Who was president when Yellowstone National Park was established?
3			Whose works helped convince Congress that Yellowstone needed to be preserved?
4			Click on In Depth at the right of the screen. Click on Maps, and then Old Faithful. Now click on the label Old Faithful Geyser on the map. What is the average interval between eruptions of the Old Faithful geyser?
5			Browse through the rest of the Yellowstone site. Then create a travel brochure of Yellowstone National Park. Remember to include a map, pictures, and information on famous sites. Visitors also need to know about food, lodging, and other amenities.
