Objective
  • Familiarize students with the French educational system and different types of French schools: écoles primaires, collèges, lycées.
Notes

  • Since most of the text on these schools' Web sites is in French, students are asked to look only for limited information and fill out a chart on their worksheet.
  • Web sites for écoles primaires and collèges are included because sites of French lycées may be too complicated for beginning language students. Lycée sites are, however, excellent sources for descriptions of course offerings and school calendars.

Expansion

  • If your school has access to an Internet server, you may want to have your class develop its own Web site. This is an excellent way to introduce your students to French-speaking students around the world and to promote keypal (electronic pen pal) exchanges. Ask your school technology coordinator for his or her assistance.
