Introduction

Heroes are respected in our society and throughout different cultures. Some people aspire to be heroes, some become heroic almost accidentally, and others have created their own heroes. From Greek mythology to comic book superheroes, these fictional heroes save everyday people from the bad things that exist in the real world.

In this exercise, you will read about a real-life hero and about the characteristics of heroes. Then you will write about someone whom you consider to be a hero and explain what characteristics this person shares with the heroes described in the reading selections.
