In this activity students will examine a slide show about Fidel Castro and learn about important dates in Castro's life. Lesson Description
Students will go to a Web site about the life of Fidel Castro. They will read the information and answer four questions based on what they have read. They will then apply what they have learned by creating a time line based on the dates provided on the Website. Instructional Objectives
- The learner will be able to describe the major events in the life of Fidel Castro.
- The learner will create a time line of important events in Fidel Castro's life.
Student Web Activity Answers - Castro was born in 1926 to a wealthy sugar planter.
- His biggest test was the Cuban missile crisis. It ended when Khrushchev and Castro removed the missiles from Cuba.
- In 2006 Fidel Castro had intestinal surgery. He then handed day–to–day power to his brother Raul until he formally stepped down in February 2008.
- Students' answers will vary.
- Time lines will vary, but students should include all dates listed on the Web site.
