    1. Scope of research methodologies. As indicated in Part III, this text is not limited to experimental research methods. Separate chapters are devoted to correlational research methods, single case studies, survey research, and research in natural settings.

    2. In-depth coverage of advanced topics. The text covers a number of topics that are of special interest to advanced students, including: the role of theory in the research process; generalizability of research results; the use of personality constructs as independent variables; issues in the measurement of change; malpractice in research; understanding meta-analysis; and social responsibilities of scientists.

    3. Review questions. Chapter ending review questions give students an opportunity to apply their research skills. These questions can be used for class assignments, as discussion questions, or as essay topics.

    4. Comprehensive coverage. Extensive information on nearly every aspect of research will give readers the tools they need to begin a research project. Included topics not often found in other texts are: designing research for application, meta-analysis, program evaluation, theory in research, and avoiding gender and ethnic group bias in designing and interpreting research.
