Application is the skill of transferring the understanding of a concept or passage to a different situation.
Making Applications
(See pages 39–41)
Making applications requires two steps:
understanding the main idea and supporting details of a passage
applying this understanding to a new context or setting
The following are steps for recognizing and responding to application questions:
Respond to the question, not to the passage.
The question gives you the new idea, the new information, and the new situation.
Transfer your understanding of the passage to the new context.
