About the author



Ann Gates has worked as a Healthcare professional for over 30 years. She is on a mission to get every patient accessing and enjoying exercise!

Ann is a qualified Clinical Pharmacist and has worked constantly with patients in the following clinical areas: Heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, older patients, elective surgery, theatres, safe effective medicines use, medication review, mental health, and COPD. At a strategic level working in PCTs, SHA and as a Director in a Mental Health Trust, she is confident at delivering patient focussed care.

Ann qualified as a Pharmacist in 1983, having studied Pharmacy at Nottingham University, England. She is a Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. Ann is a Professional Member of the American College of Sports Medicine. She is also a regular contributor to the British Journal of Sports Medicine.

Ann wrote to NASA and the National Institute of Ageing and is able to use their exercise advice to help patients and the public to exercise - one small step for exercise, one large leap for patients inspiration!

Ann's enthusiasm for teaching health professionals to provide quality exercise advice and support to patients shines through!

As a Personal Trainer, Chronic disease Exercise Specialist and INWA Nordic Walking Instructor, she is passionate about ensuring that patients and the public receive quality exercise advice and support from health professionals at every opportunity. Exercise seen as a medicine enables patients to enjoy the benefits of exercise and lead happy, healthy, fulfilling lives whatever their circumstances.
