Visit the sites of some of Canada's larger unions. Begin with the Canadian Auto Workers union at www.caw.ca. Is their only concern autoworkers? How many members do they have? What are some of the issues they are feel are important? What is their position on Starbucks? Next visit the Canadian Union of Public Employees at www.cupe.ca. What issues are of concern to this union? What issues are spotlighted? Can you find another union site?

Union density measures the percentage of workers who belong to unions. In 2011, unions represent almost 30 percent (approximately 4.3 million) of all workers. Use Google to find out the total number of workers in Canada. CUPE is Canada’s largest union, with around 615,000 members and more than 70 offices across Canada. What are some other large unions?
