Exercise 1 Goal: Many people often fail to send a thank you letter after an interview. Even those who do may not know
exactly what to say. This activity is designed to help students improve in both of these areas in order to increase their
chances of obtaining desired employment. Instructions: Your task is to write a thank you letter for a recent or current job interview that follows
the advice discussed in this chapter. There are sample cover letters available online
<http://content.monster.com/resume/samples/thankyou/>
to help you complete this assignment. After you have finished, share your letter with another person in class and ask him or
her to critique your work. Exercise 2 Goal: Because job interviews are so important to college students, this activity is designed to help students
prepare for situations that may cause them to face an ethical dilemma in which they are not sufficiently prepared to respond.
By doing this activity, students can begin to think ahead to these situations and be better prepared to respond in an ethical manner. Instructions: Imagine that you are preparing for a job interview and you are worried about
how to handle the expenses of interviewing. Go to the following website
<www.virginia.edu/~career/?handouts/ethics.html>
at the University of Virginia and then decide whether or not this advice is the best way to approach the situation.
Is there other information on this page that can help you be a more ethical candidate? Are there times when these
rules should be disregarded? Be prepared to discuss your answers with the class. |
