bandwidth  What governs the amount of digital information or data that can be sent from one place to another in a given time.
click-through  The act of responding by clicking on a link to go directly to a particular website.
convergence  The combining of telephone, computer, and TV into one interactive communication device.
cookies  Internet bugs that can track private individuals' interests as recorded by their click-throughs.
e-commerce  Online business transactions and interactions.
extranet  (1) A limited-access computer network that links suppliers, distributors, and MC agencies to the company. (2) The network that connects employees with all key external stakeholders such as MC agencies, suppliers, and distributors.
internet  A worldwide system of linked computer networks.
interstitials  Ads that pop up in a separate frame on a screen page.
intranet  (1) A computer network that is accessible only to employees and contains proprietary information. (2) A walled-off section of the larger internet to which only company employees have access.
opt-in  To agree to receive e-mail from a particular company or brand.
opt-out e-mail  A series of messages that a company sends automatically until notified to stop.
pop-ups and pop-unders  Ads that appear when a viewer closes a page or site.
rich media  Media that feature audio or video formats.
search engine  An internet tool that allows users to find help by typing in keywords.
spam  Unsolicited e-mail whose purpose is to sell a product or service.
virtual communities  Groups that focus on certain online activities and whose members establish relationships with one another.
