Case Studies
(See related pages)

In all the chapters the Case Studies represent situations similar to those that the medical assistant may encounter in daily practice. Students are encouraged to consider the case study as they read each chapter.

A 50-year-old male patient who cannot speak English comes for a general physical examination. You must prepare the patient for the examination, including proper positioning, explain each component of the exam, and assist the physician as necessary.

As you read this chapter, consider the following questions:

1. English is the only language you speak. How can you provide adequate explanation?

2. How can you prevent embarrassment when preparing the patient for the examination?
