Teacher Leadership Diaries

"Ethnography is the art and science of describing a group or culture. The description may be of a small tribal group in an exotic land or a classroom in middle-class suburbia." —David M. Fetterman, 1998. Although this Web site does not present formal research, it provides an ethnographic look into teachers' lives.

  • Use the resources available at the "Teacher Leadership Diaries" Web site to conduct ethnographic research on a particular teacher leader. Three teachers submit weekly diary entries and others submit occasional entries.
  • What kinds of data can you collect from the rich narratives and descriptions?
  • Write a brief ethnographic report about your selected teacher. What kind of teacher is he/she? Describe the teacher's philosophy of education. Identify challenges this teacher faces. Include additional details of interest to you.
