Police Discrimination (Police and Hate Crimes)

The site below contains several tables of survey results showing respondents' confidence in police, perceptions of police honesty, ethical standards, attitudes toward use of force, all by demographic characteristics. After reviewing the survey results summarize any differences in perceptions by race age and sex. Then review the remaining sites.
  • Given all this information what do you believe are possible reasons for differences in perceptions of the police?
  • Are there valid reasons for the police treating people differently on the basis of their age, race or sex?
  • What are the implications for the police of these differing perceptions?
  • How might the police address the issues which the differences raise?
