A review of the regional anatomy and a detailed description of how to locate various bony landmarks and structures began the first section of this chapter. The next section discussed how to gather information to create a physiologic baseline of the lumbar spine and trunk. This included the various ranges of motion, dermatomes, trigger-point locations, and manual muscle tests. Numerous conditions that affect the lumbar spine and sacral area were discussed, including their presentation characteristics. For each condition mentioned, assessment and treatment techniques were given so that the therapist can effectively work on the condition.
