The overall goal of this exercise is to examine how stereotypes unconsciously influence the perception process. Our primary resource for this exercise is the Race Implicit Association Test located on one of Yale University 's Web sites. This test was developed by researchers at Yale to measure the extent to which people inadvertently prefer European (whites) or African-American (black) individuals.

Take the test at www.tolerance.org/hidden_bias/index.html. At the bottom of page, click on the "Project Implicit's website" link and a new page will open. Click on the "Demonstration" button and click on the "Go to the Demonstration Tests" link. Read the information and the disclaimer and click on the "I wish to proceed" link. Click on the "Race IAT" button and when you see the green checkmark follow the link "Click here to begin" and read the introduction. Click "Continue" and the assessment will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. A second assessment appears once you submit your results but you do not need to complete the second assessment.
