Preface
When the authors were asked by McGraw-Hill to deliver a third edition of Organisational Behaviour, they realised that this was a wonderful opportunity for the team they are working with. Eleven people, all specialists in one or more parts of organisational behaviour, were ready to spend part of their time on this third edition and they succeeded in a great way! The OB-team of the Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School got into ‘flow’ and as a consequence enjoyed the work very deeply. Organisational Behaviour, 3rd European Edition, is a product of hard, intense, but fruitful teamwork. Careful listening to our readers resulted in a textbook which differs from the second edition on many points.
As suggested by those readers, Organisational Behaviour, 3rd European Edition, has become an overall European edition. As the European approach of the first two editions focussed rather on the organisational examples, exercises and cases, this edition added and sometimes replaced American theories whenever possible as well.
Where meaningful we replaced American by European theories. This approach has not only helped us to achieve a balance between American and European theories, but also a balance between Anglo-Saxon and non-Anglo-Saxon views.
Throughout the writing process we continuously adapted our texts because of recently published theories and cases on the one hand and because of incoming reviews from critical readers on the other hand. This enabled us to make an up-to-date, relevant and interesting textbook within a European context.
This book is the work of a great team. You will find the names of the contributors on page 20. But behind each team there is always the hard work of implementers and finishers, in our case Eva Cools and Fannie Debussche.
Thanks to Eva Cools’ excellent ‘expert’ and ‘planner’ capacities the book resulted in one fluent text, both as to the content, style and lay-out. Fannie Debussche’s experience with the two previous editions and her co-ordination skills resulted in on-time delivery. A special and warm thanks is going to Eva and Fannie!
We are sure you will enjoy the learning while using this OB-book.
