The paragraph below is composed of short, choppy sentences. Rewrite it, aiming for more sentence variety; when combining sentences, use coordination and subordination appropriately, and be sure to add and/or delete words where necessary. (Delete the sentence numbers as you rewrite.)
1) T.E. Lawrence (1888-1935) was a British soldier, scholar, and writer. 2) He is the title character of the award-winning film Lawrence of Arabia. 3) The film stars Peter O'Toole as Lawrence. 4) Lawrence became famous because of his exploits during World War I. 5) In 1916, he helped lead an Arab army in North Africa against troops of the Ottoman (Turkish) Empire. 6) The Turks had sided with Germany and Austria-Hungary against Britain, France, Italy, and the other Allies. 7) Ultimately, the Allies were victorious. 8) At the Paris Peace Conference, Lawrence tried to win independence for the Arabs. 9) He was unsuccessful. 10) His most famous work is The Seven Pillars of Wisdom. 11) It was published in 1935. 12) It discusses his work in Arabia.
