Chapter 4 Exercises

  • Many people find surfing the Web fun and entertaining. In your own words, try to explain why people find the Web so fascinating. (section 4.2, problem 1)
  • Describe your strategy for organizing bookmarks. Is it effective? How could you improve it? (section 4.3, problem 6)
  • Have you ever received a message like “plug-in not found,” or something similar? What options did you have at that point? (section 4.3, problem 10)
  • As of today, how many people use Navigator as compared to Internet Explorer? Cite your source. (section 4.3, problem 20)
  • List three important similarities between off-line and on-line writing styles. (section 4.4, problem 21)
  • Create a Web page outlining the rules of your favorite board game. Among other things, use various heading tags. (section 4.5, problem 27)
  • List three management tasks that an ongoing Web presentation might require. Elaborate on each one. (section 4.5, problem 35)
  • Does your school or organization have a listing of Web pages where you can register yours? If so, describe the registration procedure. If you would like, register your page with them. (section 4.6, problem 36)
  • Find two Web pages:
    1. One that uses images but displays effectively using either a graphical browser or a text-based browser. Provide the URL of the Web page and discuss why the page works.
    2. One that does not display well using Lynx. Provide its URL and describe how the page could be modified to make it suitable for viewing with a text-based browser.
