About the Authors
Otis Baskin is professor of management at the George L. Graziadio School of Business
and Management at Pepperdine University where he served as dean from 1995-2001. Dr.
Baskin has served as an adviser to management for public and private organizations
around the world. He is a frequent speaker to industry and executive groups including
The Conference Board, The Family Business Network (Europe) and the International
Security Management Network. Dr. Baskin’s scholarly achievements include six books,
in addition to numerous articles, and published papers.
Dan Lattimore is vice provost for extended programs, dean of University College, professor
of journalism at the University of Memphis, and an accredited public relations
practitioner. He is the author of five books and represents PRSA on the Accrediting
Council for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.
Suzette Heiman is director of planning and communication and an associate professor
at the Missouri School of Journalism at the University of Missouri, Columbia. Her
professional background includes experience in public relations and advertising for
nonprofits and she serves as a consultant to industry.
Elizabeth L. Toth is the associate dean and chair of the public relations department,
and full professor at the S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse
University. She edits Journalism Studies, an international mass communications journal.
She’s received for her research and teaching the PRSA Jackson Jackson and Wagner Behavioral
Science prize, the Institute for Public Relations Pathfinder Award, and the
PRSA Outstanding Educator Award.
Jim Van Leuven holds the endowed chair in public relations at the University of Oregon.
As chair of journalism at Colorado State University he developed a communications
management master’s program for working public relations professionals in Denver.
He coordinated PRSA’s original body of knowledge study and has taught on
business faculties at the National University of Singapore and Kuring-gai College, Sydney,
Australia, as well as on journalism communications faculties at the University of
Idaho,Washington State University, and Oregon State University.
