Taking it to the Net

1. Chad is a paralegal in his mother's law firm. His mother just took the case of woman who announced that she was lesbian, left her husband of ten years, and is fighting for custody of her two girls, ages 5 and 7. Chad's mother has asked him to find out what the research says about the gender identity and sexual orientation of girls raised by lesbian mothers.

2. Jocelyn, who felt that she was not a very good mother to her son, Jack, now thirty and with two children of his own, has tried to make up for it by being a devoted grandmother. Jocelyn is devastated to hear that Jack and his wife are divorcing and Jack has agreed to give custody of the children to his wife. Jack told Jocelyn not to count on seeing the children much, since his wife and Jocelyn never got along. What legal rights does Jocelyn have to continue having a relationship with her grandchildren?

3. Ellen, expecting her first child in a month, told her mother of her plans to return to work when the baby is six months old. "I wish you would reconsider," her mother said. "I was just reading last week about how bad it is for the kids to be in daycare, especially so early." "Oh, mother," Ellen said, "That is old news. The latest research is that daycare is good for kids." Who is right?
