Go to the website http://www.bbso.njit.edu/Images/daily/images/wfullb2.jpg, where today's visible image of the Sun is displayed. Sketch the image of the Sun, paying particular attention to the location of sunspot groups. Have different members of your group make such a solar sketch every day for 2 weeks. As a group, discuss how the location of the spots changes with time and try to determine the rotation period of the Sun. (Note: Galileo did this in the early 1600s.)
