Exercise 1: Finding Statistics

Using a browser of your choice or www.yahoo.com/reference, see if you can find out how many people live in the USA according to the year 2000 census. Can you find out from the same source how many African American, Latino, and Native Americans each live in the USA? Statistics are useful in an informative speech, easy to locate on the Internet, and legitimate to use if the source of the information (e.g., the year 2000 census) is credible.

Exercise 2: Finding Facts

Go to the New York Times web site, www.nytimes.org, to see if you can find information from the front page of today's newspaper and if you can capture some video from a link on that front page.
