You hear rumors at city hall that the mayor has cancer and recently visited a doctor for a checkup. You ask his press secretary for confirmation, and he tells you that a statement will be made at noon. This is the statement:
THE CITY OF FREEPORT OFFICE OF THE MAYOR
For Immediate Release
Statement by Mayor Sam Parnass
Yesterday I visited a dermatologist, Dr. Richard Green, to have five noncancerous lesions removed from my face. Three of the five are what are known as solar keratoses and, as the name suggests, are caused by exposure to the sun. The other two are seborrheic keratoses and are an inherited condition. They are common and benign lesions.
The procedure took approximately 20 minutes in Dr. Green's office and required only a local anesthetic, xylocaine. I experienced no pain or discomfort. Dr. Green told me that I could either place band-aids over the areas where the procedure had been performed, or I could allow them to heal by exposure to the air. I chose the latter course. No additional medical treatment is required.
Dr. Green has placed me under no restrictions. I can wash my face with soap and water, and I can swim without any risk. Not surprisingly, since this is a sun-related condition, he advised me to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. That is good advice for anyone.
