Mike Roemer, Argus Leader

Prank Turns Serious

You are the editor of a daily newspaper (or TV station) and your police reporter has a story about police stopping at gunpoint four teenagers in a car. The story says that they were stopped after people saw someone in the car waving a gun, then firing it.

The picture is dramatic. It shows the police arresting one of the young men.

No charges were filed. The police let them go with a warning. The boys had a cap gun.

Would you run the story with the names of the 18-year-old, two 17-year olds and a 15-year-old, and would you run the photograph of one youth surrendering?
