Among the issues that have divided individuals and groups are abortion, school prayer, welfare reform, gun control, protection of the environment, and instruction in evolution.

On one side are conservative groups such as the Moral Majority, the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, the Eagle Forum, Citizens for Excellence in Education, the Christian Broadcasting Network, and Citizens for Decency Through Law.

On the other side are groups such as Americans United for Separation of Church and State, People for the American Way, and the American Civil Liberties Union.

Select one issue and make a search for the stand of these organizations. Localize your reporting by interviewing members of these organizations in your city. Are they actively pursuing their aims in such areas as education and in legislation?
