News Interview

Introduction

Journalists rely on interviews for most of their information. The two types of interviews are:

News interview—Material is gathered to explain and document an event the reporter is covering. The focus is on the event.

Profile—The individual is the focus of the story.
        Successful interviews depend on:

  • Careful preparation
  • Relevant questions
  • Attentive listening and watching
