Apparent low bids totaling $216,000 were submitted today for the renovation of the former Scott Building, 526 Broadway, for use by the local police and traffic engineering departments as a garage.   The bids were referred by the city purchasing agent to the city engineer for review.   A total of 41 bids were received for four separate contracts involved in the renovation. The city council had appropriated $350,000 for the renovation project. The city has already spent $423,000 for the purchase of the property.   The board also received bids for the purchase of 15 police vehicles, for the purchase of two pickup trucks for the water department and for the paving of a portion of Elm Street.   Apparent low bidders for the garage renovation, the amount bid and the number of bidders for each contract were:—General construction: Hesch Construction Corp., of Albany, $111,958, 13 bidders. —Heating and ventilation: Brown Plumbing and | Heating, Inc., of Clovia, $44,492, 10 bidders. —Plumbing: J.N. Hunsley Co., of Piedmont, $33,332, eight bidders. —Electrical work: McCall Electric Co., of Albany, $25,980, 10 bidders.   Freeport Dodge, Inc, the sole bidder in each instance, was awarded three contracts to provide 15 police vehicles for a total cost of $120,237.   Freeport Dodge offered the apparent low bid of $15,400 each for two pickup trucks. The only other bid of $19,554 was from Simpson Motors Co.   Wrightson Industries Inc., of Freeport, submitted the apparent low bid of $67,986 for the improvement of 1,500 feet of Madison Street. The council had appropriated $120,000 for the job. There were five other bidders.   In a final action, EW.Grimes Co, of Freeport, was awarded $15,605 for fire proofing the city-owned Mohawk Brush Building on Blue Ridge Road. |
