Describe the effect of emotions and attitudes on employee behavior.
Employee behavior is a result of one’s attitude which is comprised of one’s beliefs, feelings and behavioral intentions. Emotions are physiological and psychological episodes that highly influence attitudes which in turn affect behavior. While attitudes are judgments held over a period of time, emotions are short episodic events.

Identify four ways in which employees respond to job dissatisfaction.
Job satisfaction (attitude) results from one’s perception of his or her work context. Dissatisfaction will yield one of four behaviors: Exit (leaving the organization), Voice (attempt to change circumstances), Loyalty (waiting for satisfactory changes to occur own its own), and Neglect (responding to unjust perception by reduction in work behavior to compensate unjust perception).

Explain how job satisfaction relates to customer service and satisfaction.
Much research shows the strong correlation of customer service satisfaction and employee satisfaction, thus many organizations realize the value of employee happiness as a first priority.

Distinguish organizational commitment from continuance commitment, including their effects on employee behavior.
Organizational commitment is a result of an employee’s positive, psychological bond to the organization whereas continuance commitment is an employee’s financial bond to the organization. When organizations structure high compensation and attractive benefits packages, some employees feel strapped to stay with the organization based solely on fear of losing financial incentives.

Discuss ways to strengthen organizational commitment.
Organizational commitment starts with top managers acting as an example. Loyalty and commitment in organizations can come from the presence of the following: Justice and support, shared values, trust, organizational comprehension, and employee involvement.

Describe the stress experience and its consequences.
Stress is a physiological fight or flight reaction to naturally occurring environmental stressors (challenges). A negative physiological, psychological, and behavioral response can have damaging effects on health and is known as distress. Eustress is a more positive response to an environmental challenge that motivates one into action of achieving goals.

Summarize three common sources of stress in the workplace.
Common sources of workplace stress are harassment and incivility, sexual harassment, work overload, and low task control.

List five ways to manage work-related stress.
Five ways to manage work-related stress includes withdrawing from the stressor, changing psychological perception, controlling stress consequences, seeking social support, and removing the stressor.

Discuss how managers can help employees improve their work-life balance.
Socio-cultural shifts primarily from the Generation X and Y groups have demanded more work-life balanced environments. Managers have responded by offering flexible work hours, job sharing, telecommuting, and other creative benefits within the workplace

Identify the "Big Five" personality dimensions.
The Big Five personality dimensions are one of the most publicized and used descriptive traits and include Conscientiousness, Agreeableness, Neuroticism, Openness to experience, and Extroversion.

Explain how personality influences emotions, well-being, job performance, and career satisfaction.
Personality explains a person’s behavioral tendencies and consists of a person’s consistent internal state of relatively stable pattern of behaviors. Some researches believe that the hereditary traits of personality influence emotions and judgments about work attitudes and behaviors, while others state that attitudes are strongly influence from actual work experience. Additionally, many researchers believe that vocational choice should be strongly matched with compatible personality, values, and competencies, thus resulting in higher career satisfaction.
