Adults can take advantage of teachable moments regarding death, dying and bereavement. The concept is reviewed in this article. Home, school, work, and play are all fertile ground for discovering teachable moments. While the article focuses on moral choices, socialization regard death occurs during moments of interaction with children. Read this article for background and then see the teachable moments website for a specific example of a death related event as a teachable moment and respond to the following:

After reading the article from the teachable moments website, How do we handle our kids' hardest questions? What do you think is the most important suggestion the author has for teachers and parents?

Select a current death related event and imagine what questions a child might have and how you would respond to them. List both the occasion and at least five questions you would guess come from a grade school child that could be used in a teachable moment to develop an understanding of the event.
