In Chapter Four, we examine how ways of seeing and artistic representation are influenced by sociocultural context. Focusing on the theme of nature, we observe how artworks embody distinct ways of seeing and representing nature based on worldviews that change across historical periods and across cultures. From the medieval period to the present and from North America to Asia, we explore some of these diverse views and representations of nature.
