Reasoning and Writing Well: A Rhetoric, Research Guide, Reader, and Handbook, 3/e
Betty Mattix Dietsch, Marion Technical College

Overview

Reasoning and Writing Well, third edition, offers four comprehensive books in one. The rhetoric provides extensive help for both beginning and advanced writers, not only in reasoning and writing but also in studying for exams, making oral presentations, and searching for employment.

The research guide provides five chapters to aid in both primary and secondary research. A chapter explaining observation, surveys, and interviewing also shows a student example of a research report. Four chapters show how to plan a research project, use the library, search the Internet, and write a research paper. Included is a new student paper on workers' compensation.

The reader contains thirty-six engaging essays, four superior short stories, and six creation narratives--all selected to stimulate discussion and writing. The concise handbook provides rules and examples to help students with common problems in punctuation, grammar, usage, and spelling. A full chapter, "Styling Sentences," covers verbs, clauses, parallelism, and sentence structure.
