About the Authors
Keith Macky (MSc, University of Auckland)
Keith Macky has over 20 years of human resources and change management experience, working in both consulting and tertiary education environments. He has recently joined Massey University (Albany Campus) as a Lecturer in human resource management (HRM). His current research and consulting interests are in strategic HRM, the impact of organisational downsizing on employee attitudes, employee retention strategies and the application of information technology (IT) to HRM.
Prior to joining Massey University, Keith was a manager with Cap Gemini Ernst & Young New Zealand Ltd (CGEY). Before that, his career roles included serving as a lecturer in HRM and as an assistant dean at the University of Auckland, and working as a senior consultant in organisation development (OD) with KPMG. For many years he was the principal of his own consulting firm, offering services in human resource management, OD and evaluation research.

Gene Johnson (PhD, Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana)
Dr Gene Johnson is an industrial-organisational psychologist with a varied career in academia, the public service and private-sector consulting. He started his career as a personnel research psychologist for the US Office of Personnel Management. From there, he moved to the University of Auckland as a lecturer in HRM and organisational psychology, teaching at undergraduate, graduate and executive levels. While there, Gene directed the New Zealand component of the Cranfield Project on strategic HRM---an international research programme conducted in almost 30 countries. He is also a dedicated member of Human Resource Institute of New Zealand and a one-time national councillor.
In 2000, Gene transferred to full-time consulting. He now works as a senior consultant for IQuentis---a European-based management consulting and training business. Much of his work involves creating and managing programmes across European borders. Gene's special consulting and applied research interests are change management, organisational culture, HRM evaluation, and management development and assessment centres.
