1. Enter or edit the question text in the first text box under the question type heading.
2. Select the layout for the choices from the Presentation dropdown box.
   
   Note: The default is vertical.
   
   Optionally, you can add left and right labels for a horizontal layout. Select the horizontally w/ labels option from the Presentation dropdown box and enter the text of the labels in the boxes labeled left and right.

3. Enter the answer items for the test question in the available item number text boxes.
4. To edit an item, enter the changes in the item number box.
5. To add another item, click the Add item icon <a onClick="window.open('/olcweb/cgi/pluginpop.cgi?it=gif::Question Editor Add Item Icon::/sites/dl/free/0000065899/564496/icon_AddItem.gif','popWin', 'width=NaN,height=NaN,resizable,scrollbars');" href="#"><img valign="absmiddle" height="16" width="16" border="0" src="/olcweb/styles/shared/linkicons/image.gif">Question Editor Add Item Icon (1.0K)</a>Question Editor Add Item Icon , enter your text in the new item number text box that appears. Repeat these steps for as many additional items as you want to add.
6. To delete an item, click the Delete item icon <a onClick="window.open('/olcweb/cgi/pluginpop.cgi?it=gif::Question Editor Delete Icon::/sites/dl/free/0000065899/564496/icon_QEditDeleteX.gif','popWin', 'width=NaN,height=NaN,resizable,scrollbars');" href="#"><img valign="absmiddle" height="16" width="16" border="0" src="/olcweb/styles/shared/linkicons/image.gif">Question Editor Delete Icon (1.0K)</a>Question Editor Delete Icon next to the item.
7. When you are finished, save your question and return to your list of questions by clicking the Save & Exit button.
   
   If you want to continue authoring questions, select a question type from the New dropdown menu and click the New button. Clicking any of the active navigation buttons at the top of the page will also save your question.

Optional Steps

• If this question belongs under a Section Break heading containing instructions, enter the name of the Section Break reference in the Tie to Reference box.
• Choices are automatically numbered. To remove numbering, check the suppress numbers box.
• Text for each choice will automatically print on the test. To remove the text for each choice, check the suppress text box. For example, you may not want to display the text when presenting large numbers of choices in a horizontal layout.
• If you want to include a follow-up question, check include this follow-up question and enter your follow-up question in the text box below.
• If you are using Random Variables, enter the variable information by scrolling down and clicking the New Variable button.
• If you want to add this question to a category, click the Categorize button and select the category you want to add the question to, or create a new category.
