As stated in the Introducción al drama, one of the purposes of Aproximaciones is to establish a knowledge base about the written literary text; the study of drama will focus on just that, el texto dramático o literario. The study of dramatic representation is itself another extensive field, and it will not be addressed here. As you read theater, however, it is critical to keep your imagination actively involved, because ultimately the dramatist's message is delivered through the performance of the play.
Task 1. Match Terms. The communicative code presented in the study of narratives, on page 1l of the main text, also relates to the study of drama, but uses different terminology. The terminology used in drama is presented on page 240 of the text. Match the concepts of el código comunicativo narrativo in Column A to those of el código comunicativo teatral in Column B.
Note: There may be more than one connection.
Task 2. Paraphrase.
Task 3. Complete Diagram. Study the diagram at the top of page 240 in the text, then close your book. Without referring to the text or your notes, complete the diagram on the next page with the correct terminology. Do not forget to include the arrows and other symbols that indicate the relationship between the communicative elements. When you are finished, re-open your textbook and check your answers.

Task 4. Describe and Summarize.
Task 5. Challenge Yourself. Some students find it easier to write about relationships than to represent them with a visual model. For other students it is easier to visualize the relationships than to write about them. Both are valid knowledge structures. In the square on the next page, create a visual representation of the five levels of communication involved in el proceso dialógico, using arrows and/or other symbols of your choice.
