Look back at IVa. Plano textual o literario and review el código comunicativo teatral. Also review what you have learned about the relationship between the dramatist and the dramatic text based on the dynamics of dialogue, and the dynamics between the dramatic text/dialogue, the performers, and the message. Within the communicative code for drama, the spectator (el espectador) interacts with the dramatic text through the dialogue delivered by the performers. From this the spectator is expected to reflect on and unravel the meaning of the message of the dramatic text.
Task 1. Scan for Information.
Task 2. Interpret.
Task 3. Define and Compare. The last paragraph of this section, on page 245, defines the concept of "participant observer" and explains how the relationship is established through monologues and asides. Read this paragraph to determine how the relationship develops and defines the role of the spectator as participant observer. Compare your answer here with your interpretation from Task 2, and add any new information to that interpretation.
